Cultivating Hope
We profile the late Dr Jane Goodall — her indomitable journey, and the message of hope and resilience she carried to the world until the very end of her life. We travel to the Tchimpounga Sanctuary in the Congo, the great-ape rescue facility her institute built, to examine the trade in trafficked apes and show how this remarkable refuge has given its animals a second chance at life — laying the foundations for conservation success in one of the most challenging regions on the planet.
From there we widen the lens. We look at how Indigenous communities around the world play a critical role in conserving wildlife and restoring the diminishing space between people and nature. We meet the field biologists who scour the planet for new species, and explain why each discovery matters to our understanding of the interconnected web of life. Finally, we explore the role of new technology — weighing what it really means for conservation, and the extent to which it can help us protect wild habitat and end the war on nature.
