It has always been a global symbol of wealth, luxury, and high social status.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe last great elephant herds of Africa are all but gone now but with successful conservation models taking hold, populations in many areas are coming back. Threatened by habitat destruction, poaching and expanding industrial agriculture, some of the largest remaining herds of wild Asian elephants are in Thailand, and it is significant in that these herds are not always isolated within protected areas. In the Eastern Economic Corridor, just 100 kilometers from Bangkok, elephants like this wild bull move freely within a terrain of human communities and enterprise.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn this image I explore the boundaries of wilderness and human culture, and the ways they intersect and interact.
